A Plant-Based Promise

As you surely know, at Swees™️ we truly care about what goes into our product. It’s not just “what goes in” that makes our cheese deliciously appearing, properly melting and heavenly tasting, but it’s also about “what does not” go into our product.

Have you been confused about any labels or icons you have seen on our or others packaging? Let’s clarify what each of these icons mean, and also, what’s the benefit for you and your health.

Well, this should be pretty clear. Our plant-based promise is that all our products are 100% plant-based, at Swees™️ this means 100% vegan. Swees™️ cheese contains no animal-derived ingredients.

Pronounced “J” refers to a vegetarian diet, which is originating in China with a Mahayana buddhism background and practiced by many in Thailand. While strict “J” means “vegan”, “vegan” doesn’t always mean “J”, since people on a J-diet usually don’t consume pungent vegetables or spices such as onion, garlic or chives. Therefore, only our Mozzarella is fully “J”, because our other cheese uses garlic and/or onion powder as a natural flavor.

Certified Organic Soy: We like to repeat it again and again: Yes, our cheese is crafted from certified organic whole soybeans, sourced from Chiang Mai, Thailand. Actually our producer has two accredited certifications (PGS Organic and Northern Organic Standard Organization), and their whole farm is completely organic. Inspecting the farm every year by ourselves is part of our responsibility towards you and our wholesome product. Learn more about the superfood soy in our previous blog post.

All our products are completely gluten-free. Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, barley, rye etc. to which an approximate 6% of the population is intolerant or allergic to. Not adding any gluten-containing ingredients is part of our promise, so an even broader mass can enjoy our products.

Naturally, all our products are completely lactose-free. Lactose is a sugar that is contained in animal milk. Lactose is also in breastmilk and the body of a baby produces an enzyme called “lactase” which helps digest these sugars. After three years old, the body stops producing lactase, so actually every person after three is lactose-intolerant. Our bodies can be forced to produce more lactase by constantly feeding animal milk, however this is not natural and healthy to our bodies. Approximately 90% of Thai people are lactose intolerant. Lactose (and also casein: a protein found in milk) are the number one food intolerances worldwide.

    Preservatives-Free

In the food industry, preservatives are added to make food last longer. Our promise is strict and straight-forward: Zero artificial preservatives in Swees™️ cheese. Even though the shelf-life can be prolonged significantly, science knows that these artificial chemicals can cause cancer. At Swees™️ health comes before profit.

    Cholesterol-Free

Cholesterol is a type of fat that is produced in the liver. It is therefore non-existent in plant-based food. As our body naturally produces this fat, that helps with digestion, hormone production and brain function, we don’t need to get any extra from animal-derived food. Actually, we know that a high cholesterol level in our blood is linked with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

    Trans Fat-Free

Trans fats are found naturally in some animal products, and artificially in hydrogenated vegetable oils (oxidized or heavily processed oil). No matter the source of trans fats, they bring serious health consequences with them. That’s why we make sure there are zero trans-fats in Swees™️.

and actually, the list goes on…

Furthermore we don’t use artificial colors, artificial flavors, MSG, sugar, aspartame, GMO ingredients and palm oil.

We are always striving to bring our product to the next level in terms of health, sustainability, and taste. If you have any suggestions, please get in touch with us.
